Mossley school's special 2021 calendar

Busy school pupils didn't let lockdown stop them from enjoying their town.

In fact, the pupils from St George’s CE Primary School in Mossley went out and about and captured the beauty of their surroundings for a fund-raising venture.

The fun started when the PTA at St George’s set the pupils a challenge of taking photographs of their town for an exciting new competition.

The winning entries were collected together and printed in a calendar to raise funds for the school.

Now the colourful calendar is on sale to help the school raise some much-needed funds after their usual fund-raising activities have been curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Claire Batty, from the PTA, said: “With lockdown happening in March, all the PTA events we had planned had to be cancelled as we couldn’t work around the social distancing guidelines.

“As you can imagine it was difficult to come up with fund-raising events where the Government guidelines could be abided to.

“We had a think and a photo competition was suggested which we could then turn into a 2021 calendar.

“The photo competition was set at the end of June, we thought the children could take photos whilst getting their government allowed daily exercise.

“The weather was beautiful and there were lots of people going out and about on walks.

“We received 33 entries and the entries were judged by Father David Warner and his wife Rev Penny Warner.

“Twelve photos were picked to create the calendar.

“All the profits from the calendar will allow to PTA to continue to support the school through discounted trips, new resources and exciting experiences in school.

“In the past this has gone towards events like Science Week 2020, where the children in Key Stage Two took part in a virtual reality day.”

The calendars cost £6 and can be bought from St George’s Church on Stamford Street or email the PTA at pta-stgeorges-mossley@outlook.com and they will arrange payment and drop-off.
