Mossley Post Office set to re-open at new location this summer

Following the temporary closure of Mossley Post Office, the branch will be re-opening on July 24 in the Raja Brothers store on Manchester Road.

The new premises, which is just next door to the former building, will have a wide door with level access at the entrance and there will be a hearing loop as well as space for a wheelchair internally.

As the new Post Office is so close to the previous one, customers can still use the same car parking and buses.

In a letter to residents, Post Office Ltd's Network Provision Lead, David Hunt, said the restoration is a commercial decision and the company are "not seeking feedback on this aspect of the change".

However, he encouraged locals to submit any comments they may have in regard to access into or inside the new premises.

He added: "We will be accepting comments until Wednesday 5 June 2024. We won't be responding to you individually, but any comments received will be taken into consideration as we finalise our plans."

You can share your views on the branch reopening through the online questionnaire via postofficeviews.co.uk. When entering the website, you can use the search function to find the engagement for this branch either by branch name, postcode or the unique branch code 223424.

Once the plans have been finalised, a poster will be displayed at the new premises including information on the main points received and the Post Office's response.

If there are any unforeseen changes to the opening date, posters will be displayed in branch to let customers know.

In February of this year, it was announced that the Manchester Road establishment, which had been running for more than 20 years, would be closing, leaving its neighbours concerned for the high street's future.

Sub-postmaster Idu Miah was one of hundreds of sub-postmasters to suffer as a result of the faulty Horizon Computer system that was highlighted in the ITV docudrama ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’.

Since the other Post Office in Top Mossley and banks in the area closed, the establishment in Bottom Mossley was the last holdout for locals to withdraw cash and provide postal services.

This meant that Mossley residents have needed to travel to Stalybridge, Ashton, Carbrook, Millbrook or Greenfield to access their nearest Post Office for the past three months.

At the time of the closure, MP Jonathan Reynolds had said that a town the size of Mossley "clearly requires" its own Post Office and not having one would be "unacceptable".
