Weekend Review: Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League

Another full programme on Saturday saw Woodley press on towards the Readers Division 1 title. 

The T20 semi-finals are set for this coming Sunday, (28th August) when Whaley Bridge host Newton, and Tintwistle face Woodley at Speedwell.

Readers Division One

Woodley continued in their quest for the league title to add to the Bissenden Cup with a comfortable six wicket win over Broadbottom.  Dove Hills continue to press Woodley after a 74 run victory over Hayfield.  The game of the day was at Newton where visitors New Mills failed by just five runs chasing 211.  The narrow defeat keeps them in the relegation places.

Division Two

Whaley Bridge are within touching distance of the title with a win in a low scoring game with High Lane. It was their 14th victory of the season.  Pott Shrigley hold a narrow nine point lead over Stalybridge in the battle for the other promotion place.  Stalybridge’s Gary Sandiford had a fine day.  After taking four wicket he followed it with an unbeaten 43 after coming in at the fall of the fifth wicket when 75 were still needed.

Division Three

Newton stay top after beating Broadbottom with Woodley in second place.   Dave Lees had an outstanding performance for Stalybridge. After taking 5-15 and limiting Hayfield to 126ao he then led them to a five wicket win with 60.

Tintwistle’s 20 run win over Charlesworth kept them at the top.  They now have a 58 point lead over second place Hollingworth, but with two games in hand Hollingworth will be hoping to bridge the gap.
