A football tournament took place at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium earlier to potentially identify a future Lioness.
The event was organised and coordinated by Emma Toone, School Games Organiser at the Tameside School Sports Partnership, and Mike Melvin, Managing Director at 3v3 UK - the UK’s largest 3v3 tournament organiser.
Over 100 girls from across Greater Manchester took part less than 24 hours after the Lionesses opened their Euro 2022 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Austria in front of 69,000 fans at Old Trafford.
We spoke to Emma, Mike and Natalie Klays, Head of PE at All Saints Catholic College, to get their views on the importance of such events and the influence the Euros will have on the future growth of the sport.
