Right Said Fred: Talking Betting With Betfred Boss Fred Done

We’ve had to cut the odds on England doing it again – and winning 8-0 against Northern Ireland on Friday.

The Lionesses were 40/1 but are now 33/1 at Betfred to match their amazing scoreline against Norway in the dead rubber against Northern Ireland at Southampton.

Beth Mead is 7/2 to score the opener  with Ellen White at 11/4  to do likewise in the game when coach Sarina Wiegman, having already steered the team to the quarter finals of the women’s Euros, will have to decide between momentum or rotation for her selection.

Mead, described as a goalscoring monster by Ian Wright no less, hit her fourth England hat-trick in the Norway demolition – and the Arsenal striker is the 5/4 favourite at Betfred to win the tournament’s golden boot.

England’s likely quarter final opponents, Germany, next Wednesday, back in Brighton are 7/2 favourites to win the competition outright behind England and France who are 3/1 joint favourites while Spain are 5/1 with us to be champions.

Turning to Betfred Super League and  Wire may have turned the corner and are about to launch an 11th hour surge up the table.

Betfred  in fact have Daryl Powell’s team, who are still desperately battling for a top six finish  at 25/1 to win the Grand Final at Old Trafford in September.

Saints - leaders ahead of Wigan by four points with nine games of the regular season to go - are however  big favourites to be champs for a record breaking four times on the bounce.

St Helens, who beat Wigan in an arm wrestle of a game during Magic Weekend, are evens with Wigan 7/2 while Catalans are 4/1.

The big movers for Grand Final glory are this season’s surprise package Huddersfield - up to third after their win over my home town club Salford - who have been cut in to 10/1 on the back of their impressive form of late.

Warrington’s against the odds 36-10 win over Catalans in Newcastle was the biggest upset of  Magic Weekend for certain.

The Dragons may have been severely hit by injuries but that is the nature of the game.  The pressure is, for now, off the Wolves with Powell allowing himself a wry smile as he gave his assessment.

He picked out star men George Williams and Stefan Ratchford for special praise showing great confidence during the game which others could feed off.

Powell stressed however he didn’t want his team to “start falling in love” with themselves - and that the two points is something to build on.

Sadly he will have to plot his late move up the table without Gareth Widdop who Powell fears will be missing for the rest of the season after dislocating his shoulder.

Numbers were up slightly for Magic Weekend to 62,154 compared with 60,866 in September last year but down on the 2018 figure.

The big difference is that Toulouse have replaced Leigh in Betfred Super League.

Maybe in better times to come we could have a Magic Weekend In France!

Warrington have a brilliant chance to make up ground against Castleford - a club vying  with Wolves for a coveted top six finish - when they take on the Tigers at their place on Saturday afternoon. Betfred can’t split the two teams with them both at 10/11 for the two points. In form  Ratchford is 20/1 to score the first try.

An NHS worker has got his first step on the property ladder after winning £80,875 at Betfred.

He picked two horses – including 50/1 shot Pure Gold – that both won at Kempton last week, making his £125 each-way punt a winning one.

The lucky winner was due to win £59,410, but because of Betfred’s Best Odds Guaranteed promotion his windfall was boosted by over £21,464.

The 33-year-old, who is a regular at the Betfred shop on Delamere Street, Crewe, said: “It’s not every day you win with a 50/1 shot!

“I was into betting when I was younger and have always been interested in horse racing. I usually go for doubles, and it’s paid off big time for me.

“Pearl Reef was my first selection, but it was Pure Gold that gave me such a big win.

“I’ve already decided what to do with the money – put it down as a deposit so I can get a mortgage and get myself on the property ladder.

This regular customer is using his winnings very sensibly and I applaud him for that.

Well done – and of course we’re delighted to have boosted his windfall by such a substantial amount.

It certainly wasn’t a joke for us at Betfred when a punter from Sunderland won £94,499 from a 10p Lucky 31.

Although I  can certainly see the funny side, with the last of five winners in the 54-year-old punter’s virtual horse racing bet aptly named ‘Not A Joke’.

The jubilant winner – a father-of-one who works as a labourer – said: “I don’t drive, so I don’t need a new car, and I’m happy with my house so I’m just going to spend some of the money on a decent holiday in Spain with the missus.

“I always bet on the virtuals and I’ve never had a winner like this.

“Two of the horses I picked – Facing Nightfall and Not A Joke – are regulars of mine.”

His five winners came within an hour, but he didn’t check how they got on until the next morning.

He added: “I’m still trying to chill out having won this life-changing amount.”

For a total stake of just £3.10, this fella has picked my pocket to the tune of over £94,000.

Well done to him – and I hope he enjoys his holiday.

And finally a Yorkshire publican is off on holiday for the first time in 20 years after a big win at Betfred.

The 55-year-old picked up a cool £54,174 after all five selections in his £4 Lucky 31 horse racing wager won at Ayr on Monday.

He went for Classy Al, Charging Thunder, Quest For Fun, True Warfare and Flying Moon as he went through the card.

Thanks to Betfred’s Best Odds Guaranteed promotion, the lucky winner’s windfall was boosted by £23,612 with four of his selections going off at bigger prices.

He said: “I went with my instincts when making my selections – it probably only took me about five minutes to fill in my slip. I had a few extra pints that night with some friends by way of celebration.”

“I’ve not been on holiday for 20 years – in this country or abroad. I used to go to Benidorm a lot, but my passport expired, however with this money I’m definitely going to have a break, probably somewhere in this country.”

Next time I’m in Yorkshire I’ll be popping in for a pint or two… and I don’t expect to be paying!

Congratulations to this landlord who is a hard-working fella and like the rest of us deserves a decent holiday.
