Midweek Football Review

Aside from Curzon Ashton, our football teams were back in action on Tuesday night in various competitions.

In the NPL Premier Division, Ashton United made the long trip to Marske United and were looking to build on Saturday's victory over Warrington Rylands, however they returned empty handed following a 2-1 defeat.

Meanwhile, Stalybridge Celtic claimed a valuable point at title-hopefuls Matlock Town in a 1-1 draw. Ben Woods put the visitors ahead with stunning free-kick on the stroke of half-time, only for the Gladiators to equalise in the 59th minute.

Hyde United continued their decent start to the season with a 1-0 victory Belper Town at the Project Solar Stadium. A Jack Redshaw double gave the Tigers the three points and pushes the club to fourth in the table.

Nick Spooner’s side are unbeaten so far, having drawn two and won two of their opening four fixtures.

In the NPL West, it’s been a fantastic start to the season for both Mossley and Glossop North End, as the club’s currently occupy first and second spot respectively.

Mossley have won three in three; their latest victory coming on Tuesday night in a 3-2 win at Colne. The Lilywhites displayed great resiliance after falling two goals behind in the fixture, drawing matters level through Freddie Sass and Jordan Butterworth, before Nicky Clee completed the comeback with a low driven effort in the dying embers.

Meanwhile, Stuart Mellish’s Glossop side drew 1-1 at at Leek Town and have won two and drawn one of their opening three games. Bevan Burey came to the Hillmen's rescue in the 90h minute to give his side a share of the points.
