It was an emphatic win for Droylsden at the weekend, putting four past local rivals Maine Road.

The Bloods have been in good form of late, scoring 12 in their last five games, and picking up 13 points.

Shaquille Lewys was handed a start upfront and repaid his manager’s faith with a first-half brace. His first was a tap-in following a cross into the box, before scoring a header from a Joel Ankers assist.

Maine Road scored shortly after the break, but the referee awarded a foul in favour of Droylsden, and their two-goal lead remained intact. Then just after the hour mark, the hosts had another goal chalked off, their striker scored but the referee didn’t play advantage and awarded a free kick instead.

The Bloods then extended their lead in the 77th minute, Owen Whitehead the goal scorer, prodding home after a save from goalkeeper Oliver Brockbank. And Fuad Kasali rounded off an enjoyable afternoon with Droylsden’s fourth in stoppage time.

This win was well-needed after dropping points to New Mills last weekend and keeps Dave Pace’s side well four points clear in the promotion places.

Their next league match is against Brocton at home on Saturday. After losing the top spot to Stockport Town at the weekend, the visitors will look for a result against a Droylsden side that beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture.
