Match Report: Droylsden 0-3 Sandbach United

It was a third consecutive league defeat for Droylsden on Saturday, this time coming to Sandbach United.

The visitors shut out the Bloods despite being down to ten men for over an hour.

It didn’t take long for Sandbach to take the lead, Robbie Hatton with a super strike hitting the post before nestling inside the left netting. Droylsden switched off defensively and was punished in superb fashion.

Hatton then went from hero to zero being sent off after twenty-two minutes for a strong tackle on Ben Lowe. The visitors adapted well to being a man down and reached half-time with their lead intact.

Droylsden had opportunities, the best coming to Shaquille Lewys but miskicked at the vital moment. Perhaps the pitch didn’t help matters which had been cut up through heavy rain in recent weeks.

After the break, Droylsden continued to push but the ten men of Sandbach stood strong. George West was denied an equaliser through the feet of the visitor's goalkeeper Sebastian Jensen.

The visitors then doubled their lead with another scorcher of a goal, this time from Niall Cope, nothing Morgan Piper could do to prevent it. And the final hammer blow came only a few minutes later through Kieran Alley who made it 3-0.

Droylsden has already shown this season that they have the ability to bounce back from a poor run of form and will have to demonstrate that grit once more.

The Bloods take on Ilkey Town on Tuesday evening in the Edward Case Cup – which hasn’t taken place at the time of writing - before another home fixture to Abbey Hey on Saturday.
