Match Report: Bootle 1-1 Mossley

Mossley got a hard-earned draw away to Bootle on Saturday after Ben Darby’s second-half header meant the points were shared in Merseyside.

The game got off to a flying start at New Bucks Park as hosts Bootle had the ball in the next with just 60 seconds on the clock, only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

The home side then took the lead on 25 minutes after Ben Hodkinson slipped in Michael Burkey who slotted past Madigan to put his side ahead.

Visitors Mossley responded well to falling behind, creating a number of opportunities soon after, the best one falling to Justin Iwobi whose effort was deflected just wide of the post.

The Lilywhites then found the breakthrough just minutes later when Ben Darby’s cushioned header found a way past Tony Thompson in the Bootle goal to draw the away side level.

The hosts then responded almost instantly through Tom Peterson, but the forward was only able to flash his header wide of the target.

Mossley were then presented with one final opportunity to win it when Kane Hickman flicked a header towards goal in the very last minute, but his effort rebounded back off the top of the crossbar and away to safety.

A hard fought point for David Fish’s men, which sees them sit in 14th place in the Northern Premier League West table ahead of their home match this weekend against Hanley Town.
