Legend England cricketer to host fundraising event for Hadfield

Hadfield St Andrew's first team.

Cricket legend Matthew Hoggard will be making a special appearance at the Partington Theatre in Glossop to raise funds for Hadfield Cricket Club.

When the bitter weather struck in the winter of last year, the club house was left destroyed. A burst water pipe caused severe flooding, leaving the function room out of action.

Instantly, members of the community gathered to raise as much money as possible to begin renovation.

Thousands of pounds amounted on their fundraising page, with kind gestures pouring in from those who know just how vital the club is for locals.

Now, in a bid to raise even more funds and ensure that Hadfield can enjoy a successful cricket season, Partington Theatre will host an exciting evening.

On Friday 21 April from 7pm, locals are invited to ‘An Evening with Matthew Hoggard’ as well as comedy from Graham Elliott.

Cricket fans will recognise the athletes name as one of the most successful international cricketers to have played for England.

Making his debut for Yorkshire in 1996, Matthew was called to play for England 4 years later, before going on to represent his country 93 times.

In 2006 he was awarded an MBE for his incredible service to cricket and later was ranked the 4th best Test Match bowler in the world.

Soon, the sporting superstar will be making his appearance in Glossop, where he will take part in a question-and-answer session and chat with the many sport lovers in our local area.

Further entertainment will come from Manchester based comedian Graham Elliott, making it a truly unmissable night.

Of course, the most important aspect of the evening is raising as much money as possible for Hadfield Cricket Club.

Despite being focused around sport, Hadfield is known locally as ‘more than a cricket club’.

It's the home for many social groups and the perfect venue for an array of celebrations. Hadfield has also worked incredibly hard to introduce the next generation of athletes to sport, offering opportunities for so many youngsters to get involved.

Events like this are crucial in allowing the club to get back on their feet and continue doing what they do best.
