Glossop North End Community Club Girls victorious in Cup Final

Glossop under 17 girls defeated Altrincham girls 5-3 in their first ever cup final in the Greater Manchester Women's League, on a glorious day at the Vestacare Stadium, the home of Avro FC.

With a full squad available for the day, they started in fine form with Grace Parker using her pace from a through ball from Libby Marshall and finishing coolly with just five minutes gone.

Minutes later Jasmine Tomlinson doubled the lead after her penalty was initially saved to tap home, having been brought down in the Altrincham box.

Glossop continued to go forward with remarkable energy, Mia Rossi showing her skills on the right, crossing for Jasmine to score again, 20 minutes gone, 3 nil Glossop.

Altrincham to their credit did rally and played some good football testing the Glossop back line, Keira Urquhart in goal sweeping well and Madeline Hayles and Jodie Mclaren particularly impressing at the back.

But Molly Doody, ever dangerous on the right, fired home from an Emily Mills through ball to make it 4 nil a few minutes before halftime.

Altrincham came out strongly in the second half and did get one back from a loose ball in the Glossop box to make the score 4 v 1 and the game was much closer with Erin Stopford, Emily and Holly Powell at the centre of the action in midfield.

On 65 minutes, Grace Parker scored again, Erin Stopford sending her through and placing the ball in the bottom corner.

Altrincham made a valiant comeback in the last few minutes of the game, scoring two late goals from goal mouth scrambles but Glossop held on to record their first cup final win since under 12s and their first in the Greater Manchester Women's League. The final score was 5 v 3 with all the players in the squad contributing at key moments in the game on the day.

Jasmine Tomlinson was awarded player of the final for a superb display and Mia Rossi collected the GMWFL League player of the season for her excellent displays all the year.
