Ginetta Junior Championship launches with first race at Oulton Park

Oulton Park’s 2023 motorsport season kicks into gear with the first round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship on Easter Weekend (8-10 April).

Locally, this also means two of our budding young drivers, Alisha Palmowski and Chase Fernandez will begin their racing season in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

The British GT Championship pits race prepared cars from prestigious manufacturers against one another with machinery from McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, Aston Martin and more set to compete. Two drivers will share each car in a pair of one-hour races with pit stops and driver changes adding to the drama. Reigning champion Ian Loggie will return to defend his title, this year racing for 2 Seas Motorsport, switching from RAM Racing. Filling the vacant spot at RAM is reigning GT World Challenge Europe champion, Raffaele Marciello, who will team up with race winner John Ferguson. Co-headlining the event is the GB3 Championship, partnered by the BRDC, which will see junior single-seater drivers fight it out as they aim for Grand Prix stardom.

Under previous guises, the championship spawned successful drivers like F1 stars George Russell and Lando Norris in recent years and the anticipated 25-car entry is thought to be the largest single-class entry at this level of UK motorsport for over 50-years. There will be further open-wheel action from the GB4 Championship for drivers stepping into single-seaters for the first time. Ginetta’s race package joins the British GT bill in 2023, with the Ginetta Junior Championship, Ginetta GT Championship and Ginetta GT Academy all adding to the on-track show this weekend. Off-track, the Cheshire circuit will play host to a wide selection of Easter activities catering for the whole family. Around the track will be supercar displays, charity sportscar rides with the Sporting Bears, an Easter egg hunt, visits from the Easter Bunny, arts and crafts, face painting and much more. On top of that a pit lane walk in between the two British GT races at lunchtime on Monday will let fans get as close as possible to the teams and cars and maybe even meet their favourite drivers. The Intelligent Money British GT Championship visit to Oulton Park is just the start of a hugely busy season for the Cheshire circuit.
