Curzon Boss Lakeland Delighted With Cup Progression

Curzon Ashton manager Adam Lakeland has been left delighted with his side's progression in the FA Cup.

The Nash secured their place in the fourth qualifying round, to be played at Peterborough Sports, following a 3-2 victory over Scarborough at the Tameside Stadium. In the process, Curzon have scooped £5,625 in prize money, and are potentially 90 minutes away from securing a lucrative tie in the first round proper.

Whilst delighted with the result, Lakeland breathed a sigh of relief when the final whistle was blown, as his players were pushed to their limits by the forceful visitors. Following the game. Lakeland spoke to Curzon's media team and praised his players for their willingness to win. He said: "I think it's only fair to give credit to Scarborough. In the three games we've played them they have pushed us and pushed us. They've shown what a good side they are, they only came up last season, they're fit, strong and made things really difficult for us.

"We knew tonight's game, at home, would be different. The way we started the game In the opening 20 minutes was sensational. I think a lesser group would have buckled at times, but I think we finished the 90 minutes the stronger side.

"Going inro extra time is tough and you have to concentrate and take the chances when they come. We're delighted for everyone that we're through to the next round, and it's going to be another tough game at Peterborough."

Although Peterborough are a newly promoted side, Lakeland expects another tough encounter in Cambridgeshire. "It's certainly going to be a test of character as they're a newly promoted team" he said.

"We will play them twice in the next couple of weeks, and they've come up with momentum. The league below is a grind, as you're playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, so they'll be well tuned.

"We can put the cup to bed for a couple of weeks, refocus on the league and look forward to the game against Bradford this weekend."
