Curzon and Ashton learn FA Cup fate

Curzon Ashton and Ashton United have discovered their potential FA Cup second qualifying round opponents following Monday's draw.

The 116 winners from the first qualifying round have been joined by the 44 teams from the National League North and South divisions.

That means Curzon are now entering this season's competition and Mark Bradshaw's side will take on fellow National League North side Blyth Spartans at the Tameside Stadium.

Meanwhile, Ashton could face a home tie against Pontefract Collieries - who won 3-1 at Glossop North End in the last round - if they beat Tadcaster Albion in Tuesday night's first qualifying round replay at Hurst Cross. The original tie at the weekend finished 2-2.

Second round qualifying ties will take place over the weekend of 20-22 September.

Winning clubs will receive £6,750 from The FA prize fund while losing clubs will collect £2,250.

Glossop North End, Hyde United and Stalybridge Celtic were all knocked out in the first qualifying round stage last weekend, while Mossley were beaten 3-2 by Widnes in their preliminary round replay and Droylsden were beaten 1-0 at Liversedge in their preliminary round tie.

There are still third and fourth qualifying rounds to negotiate before the first round proper on the weekend of 9 November.
