Zink starting free IT workshops

Volunteer Digital Champions Martin Walmsley and Alan Hall check through the learning materials.

A High Peak charity is launching free Discover Digital IT Workshops for Beginners from next week.

Being held at Zink HQ in Buxton, they start on 9 March, and will then take place every Thursday from 2.30pm to 4pm.

The workshops are for people who have no computer skills or those who want to improve their capability. Laptops are provided and there will be tutors on hand to help and guide.

Zink was asked by Rural Action Derbyshire to set up IT workshops as they recognised a need in the area.

Paul Bohan, CEO of Zink, said they were quick to respond.

“When we were asked to organise the workshops, we asked amongst our volunteers for people with IT skills and four of them jumped at the chance to support people to get the most out of digital services. We’re really grateful to them for coming forward and helping people to get online.”

The workshops will take place in Zink’s Eco-Café where drinks, cakes and snacks are available.

Learners will work at their own pace using materials provided by The Good Things Foundation and just study what they want to learn. Volunteer digital champions will be on hand to help if anyone gets stuck or needs more support.

“It will be a fun way to learn some new skills,” said Paul, “Getting online can be liberating and open up lots of possibilities.”

There is no need to book, just turn up at Zink HQ, Clough Street, Buxton, SK17 6LJ any Thursday between 2.30pm and 4pm. For more information, email liz@zink.org.uk or ring 01298 214926.
