Two cars burst into flames after being involved in a collision on Long Hill, between Buxton and Whaley Bridge.

It happened at around 7.30pm last Wednesday evening (28 June).

Firefighters from Whaley Bridge station were called to a car fire on the A5004 road and, whilst on the way, they were told by the control room that it was in fact a two-car road traffic collision which had evolved into a vehicle fire.

When they arrived, the two cars were "well alight" and firefighters from Chapel and New Mills were also summoned to assist.

Images shared by Whaley Bridge Fire Station on social media showed the extent of the badly burnt vehicles.

In total, crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets and the prima foam unit to extinguish the blaze.

Two people in the vehicles were treated for minor injuries by paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Derbyshire Police also attended and put in place a road closure whilst the incident was dealt with.
