Trekkers to take on epic climb for Reuben's Retreat

Twenty intrepid trekkers will be climbing over two weeks and more than 5,300 metres high to the iconic Everest Base Camp in aid of a local charity.

On Saturday 25 March, the group will embark on the epic trek in Nepal, South Asia.

It's all to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Glossop-based charity Reuben's Retreat, which supports families who have lost a child or have a child living with a life threatening or life limiting condition.

Stacey Kirkpatrick, Senior Fundraiser at Reuben's Retreat, is taking part and told the Glossop Chronicle how she's been preparing for the challenge and what it will entail.

"Over the last nine months I've been out walking, in the gym and even doing some breathing techniques to get me ready for the thin air that's going to be at altitude," she said.

"I've also been looking at my diet so a lot of prep goes into the training because we really want to get to base camp.

"We're actually going to be in Nepal for just over 15 days. The trek itself is 12 days - it should take around eight or nine days to get up but it's a lot quicker coming down as they have to get you out of the altitude.

"So I'll be out of the UK and away from family and loved ones for more than two weeks in total. I'm actually really excited about the trek - a few people have asked me whether I'm nervous. I get the feeling that I should be but I'm not at all.

"It's just a privilege to be able to do something like this and give something back to Reuben's Retreat."

Stacey has her own JustGiving page for the trek, which has already raised more than £6,000 alone. You can support her here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stacey-kirkpatrick2
