Top accolades for iconic Glossop pub

One of Glossop favourites pubs, the Norfolk Arms made it to the finals of the annual Joseph Holts Annual Pub Awards out of 120 nominations.

The iconic pub sits on the corner of Norfolk Street in Glossop and was nominated for five awards including the best kept cellar, best wet team and the heart of community. The successful team received second place for Best Front of House Team Member and third place for Best Chef.

Kerry Lee came second out of 1570 nominees for Best Front of House Team Member. Assistant manager Ellie commented, “she is an incredible asset to our team and creates such a great welcoming atmosphere for all our guests.”

Kitchen manager Theresa Padington came third out of 80 nominees for Best Chef. Ellie also added, “She strives for perfection with every dish and is a guiding light with our new chefs that have joined us recently. To win third place just shows what a key part of our team she is and why we are one of the go to places for dining in our town.”

However, the pub has seen some difficulty in recent years due to the pandemic and the ever rising cost of living, Ellie expressed, “After covid the whole industry took a bit of a dip and also now with the cost of living, just to make it to the finals is such a big achievement and even though some of the awards are for individuals, it’s a team effort.”

“We are a team, we’re a family and everyone is so proud of each other”.

The pub continuously raises money for charities such as Christies and they also have a blue light discount scheme for those who work in the emergency services.

Looking to the future, Ellie hopes the Norfolk Arms will be nominated for the pub of the year as well as continuing with their hard work and the charitable nature of staff.
