Ten year old raises money in memory of his mother

Merlin, discovered his love of walking during lockdown and has now decided to partake in the “Trig Bagging” challenge which involves getting to all 88 triangulation pillars within the Peak District.

He is doing the challenge in memory of his late mum who passed away when he was just 10 weeks old and will also be commemorating the Mummy’s Star charity for their 10th year anniversary.

The charity was created in the wake of the family’s loss of Mair, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer whilst pregnant with him.

Merlin began the challenge on a school strike day in March at Axe Edge and since then, he has completed 56 walks.

Merlin’s Dad, Pete Wallroth who is the founder of the Mummy's Star charity expressed how proud he is of his son, “I really am so proud of him, especially as it was his own idea. It’s been nice spending time together as a family as well and seeing all of the Peak District.”

So far, Merlin has completed walks in locations such as Wibben Hill in Tissington, Axe Edge in Buxton and the Shining Tor hill. He hopes to finish the 88 walks by mid next year, with the last walk being Cock Hill on Saturday 16th August 2024.

Pete also added, “We hope to get as many people as possible out to join us when it culminates next March through school, his clubs and the wider Glossopdale area Community and will be promoting that closer to the time.”

There is an Instagram page which charts all his adventures so far @merlinsmegatrigbag and a Justgiving page - https://www.justgiving.com/page/merlinsmegatrigbag
