Stardust Dance Company win awards at World Championships in Blackpool

Hadfield-based dance studio Stardust Dance Company recently attended Blackpool Tower ballroom for the Formation World Championship, and they left with a trio of awards.

The studio, which has been in business for more than 50 years attended the annual competition at Blackpool Tower where teams from countries such as Germany, Dubai and The Netherlands attended.

Stardust had five teams competing in the event, with members ranging in age from three years old to 40 years old. All five teams were competing in the Latin section and danced dances such as the cha-cha-cha and the jive.

They came back from Blackpool with three championship titles thanks to the senior team, the adult solo team and the tiny gems team. The juniors won the introduction section and the juveniles team were runners-up.

Teacher and costume maker Rebecca Giles expressed how proud she was of the students’ achievements: “We’re so proud because everyone trained for 12 months for this competition. All the dancers fundraised all year to help them pay for the competition, and everyone did so well as well.

“The dancers are over the moon and so are the parents, especially the ones for our tiny team as they are two-to-six-year-olds and for them to win their first championship is such an achievement.”

Looking to the future, Stardust Dance Company has many competitions across the country to get ready for and the dance studio is currently taking on new students.
