Sisters scoop awards for Great Big Green Week poems and posters

Two sets of talented siblings have won funding to help environmental projects at their schools.

They were rewarded for their efforts in creating thought-provoking poems and colourful posters to make people think about what they can do to protect the planet for Great Big Green Week.

Laelia and Rosabella Malena were really excited when their mum suggested they write a poem.

They were even more delighted when they learned that their poems had won £100 for an environmental project at Padfield Community Primary School.

Sisters Molly and Bessie Gannon designed posters on the same theme of 'Looking after our Beautiful Planet' which gained them £100 for a green project at Hayfield Primary School.

The awards come from High Peak Green New Deal, with support from Transition Buxton Environment Group and a grant from 'Together for our Planet'.

Here are the poems:

Protect the Planet by Laelia Malena, age 7

Save the planet

Save the bees

Save the penguins

Save the trees

Help the hedgehogs

And polar bears

Help all the animals

Show you care!

We can save the planet

If we try

And we won't let

The animals cry!

How to Save the Earth by Rosabella Malena, age 9

How to save the Earth

Here's some things that just might work,

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,

Walk or take a cycle,

Use less plastic. Now that'll be fantastic!

Take a short shower,

To save on power,

Plant lots of flowers and trees,

To save wildlife and the bees!

Remember to use less water,

Now I have taught ya,

How to save the Earth!
