RBL Laying Up Service at Glossop church

Glossop Parish Church of All Saints.

A civic service at Glossop Parish Church of All Saints for the laying up of the old Standard of the Glossop Branch of the Royal British Legion and for the dedication of the Branch’s new Standard is being held this weekend.

It’s taking place on Sunday 4 September at 3.30pm.

The Revd Norman Shaw, Chaplain to the Glossop Branch, said: "The Standard is a constant symbolic reminder to members of the Royal British Legion of the Legion’s motto “Service not self”. The Standard’s colours are blue and gold: blue for loyalty and fidelity, and gold for service “as gold is tried by fire”, a reminder of those who gave their lives for our country.

"The Union Flag in the left corner symbolises unity, chivalry and loyalty to the Sovereign, community and nation. The name of the local Branch appears on the gold band."

The service includes hymns, a Bible reading, an address and prayers. Everyone is invited to attend this special service.

Glossop Parish Church of All Saints has been the site of Christian worship since the 11th century. The current structure is the result of a rebuilding programme which began in 1831 to replace a late medieval building and was completed in 1924 with the dedication of the Chancel.
