Powsers Mountaineering Club shine for Mummy's Star

Glossop-based Powsers Mountaineering Club has raised over £2,200 for local charity Mummy's Star over the past few months.

They have held a few fundraising events including a sponsored walk in the summer, an autumn lecture on climbing in the U.S. and a couple of other initiatives.

Last week, club members met up at the Bull’s Head in Old Glossop to present a cheque for £2,200 to Mummy’s Star founder and CEO Pete Wallroth.

Pete gave a brief talk on how the funds will be put to use.

He said: “A huge thanks to the Powsers and all your sponsors. As a small charity with a wide reach, support and fundraising like this is absolutely invaluable and enables us to help so many more families who have received a diagnosis of cancer in or around a pregnancy, including loss."

Powsers' President John Hughes said: “Our club has held an annual charity walk since the 1980s. This year’s walk and other projects have been an excellent team effort to raise funds and public awareness for another tremendous and worthy local charity Mummy’s Star. Pete and his team do a brilliant job supporting hundreds of families across the UK and Ireland.

“Thanks again to all those who participated and donated so generously. The Powsers are out on the hills every Sunday and we have lots of future trips planned to UK mountain areas and farther afield. We welcome new members; to find out more about our activities check out “The Powsers” on Facebook or email us at thepowsers@gmail.com."
