Pals take on Glossop fitness fund-raiser

Abdul Ahmed and Mike Mann

Michael Mann, from Glossop, is taking part in a fund-raiser in January titled the Hyrox fitness challenge, for charity.

Michael and his friend Abdul Ahmed are taking part in the event to raise money for Macmillan.

The challenge, which takes place on January 27, next year, consists of an eight-kilometre run, interlaced with eight intensive exercise stations against the clock.

Michael, who is an avid gym goer says the event will be challenging, even for him, “I regularly go to the gym but I’m going to have to step up my cardio quite a bit, it is going to be a very intense workout”.

Michael says he and Abdul wanted to do the challenge not just to raise money, but to raise awareness of the effects of cancer.

“One in two people are affected by cancer, so everyone is bound to know someone who has been affected by the disease”.

They chose to raise money for Macmillan as they wanted to help repay a charity that does so much for the community, “It is such a worthwhile cause, charities like Macmillan help so many people so it’s nice to give something back to them.

“It’s a charity that is close to my heart because they helped my mum out so much when she had cancer, they really helped her through the process.

“They empower people by helping them have a positive outlook on things, you can’t stop bad things from happening, all you can do is change how you react to them.”  Donations for the charity are being taken via a JustGiving page, with the current total standing at just over £300, and there is still plenty of time to donate.
