New name for Chapel Camera Club

After nearly 40 years, Chapel Camera Club, one of the area's most successful photographic clubs, is beginning a new chapter with a new name - High Peak Photography Club.

Explaining the move, Chairman Keith Gordon said: “We felt the change of name would better reflect the area from which the Club draws its membership, predominantly the High Peak.

“Due to innovations in technology, the world of photography has developed in ways we could not have imagined a few years ago.

“We wanted the Club’s name to acknowledge these developments and to reflect a wider dimension in the Club’s activities by changing ‘Camera ’to ‘Photography’.

“We have a new logo, designed by one of our members, and we have a new meeting venue in Whaley Bridge, where we are looking forward to continuing our record of being one of the most successful clubs in the region.”

The friendly group is for people interested in photography to meet, chat, and learn about different aspects of this fascinating hobby.

The club, which meets at Whaley Bridge Bowling Club, offer a varied programme of events, including presentations from experts in their fields, members' evenings, practical sessions, and photographic competitions.

Meeting times are usually from 8-10pm and there is an entry fee of £2 for members and £3.50 for non-members at each meeting.

They also hold a monthly ‘Development Group’, on a Tuesday evening, which provides members with the opportunity to meet and informally discuss photographic matters of interest.

Their full programme of events runs from September – April/May and we also take part in inter club competitions at a regional level.

Recent successful events include their first public photographic competition with the winning photographs displayed at the club’s exhibition ‘TWENTY TWENTY …and Beyond’ held in 2022 at Buxton Museum and Arts Gallery.
