New lease of life for Glossop indie stars The Bodines

Their career may have been short, producing a single album and a few singles, but Glossop band The Bodines are enjoying a surge in interest in their career.

This year the indie band's nearest thing to a hit - the single Therese - was named the 37th greatest indie single ever by Mojo magazine.

And copies of their major label debut album Played are changing hands for hundreds of pounds on online auction sites.

The band's heyday was in the mid to late 80s, with Therese appearing on the New Musical Express's C86 compilation, which provided a name for the indie movement at the time.

The Bodines, consisting of Mike Ryan, Paul Brotherton, Tim Burtonwood and Paul Lilley, were formed in Glossop in 1985, releasing their debut single God Bless on Creation Records, later to provide a home for Oasis and Primal Scream.

Following the release of Therese, the band signed with a major label, Magnet Records, with a remix of the single making their debut on the label.

Several more singles followed after the release of Played, which was produced by Lightning Seeds frontman Ian Broudie.

The album has been re-released a couple of times over the last three decades, but never on vinyl.

As a result copies are being sold for more than a hundred pounds on sites such as Ebay as a new generation of fans discover the band.
