New equipment for two High Peak play areas

The plans for the Jodrell Road play area in Whaley Bridge

Two play areas in the High Peak are to be revitalised, with new play equipment set to be installed.

High Peak Borough Council has appointed specialist KOMPAN to carry out the work at the sites in Simmondley and Whaley Bridge.

The existing play equipment will be removed, and new facilities installed in their place which have been designed in collaboration with local communities.

At the Simmondley site on Pennine Road, the play bark surfacing will be replaced with wetpour to make the space more accessible. Work is due to start in a few weeks' time.

Work is already under way at Jodrell Road in Whaley Bridge.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: “Being active outdoors has so many health and wellbeing benefits and the Council is committed to investing in and improving play areas, parks and open spaces via dedicated development funding and a new Parks Strategy.

“New play areas such as this are a key part of delivering on that that which is why it’s so important to us that we worked co-operatively with the people who will use these amenities to make sure what’s provided meets local requirements.

“I look forward to this work being finished and to seeing people making full use of this new play area for many years to come.”
