A community group made up of people who want to help improve and protect the many green public spaces in Whitfield has been formed.
Now the volunteers behind Friends of Whitfield Rec and Green Spaces have just begun their first project.
With the help of High Peak Borough Council, they have taken over a stone-built planter off Whitfield Avenue, and begun planting herbs, flowers, and bulbs for all to enjoy.
Other plans in the pipeline include the creation of a community orchard and to hold a fitness and well-being day on the Recreation Ground.
If you would like to get involved or to find out more, visit the group’s Facebook page.
