High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed progress on the Hope Valley railway upgrade project.
Following recent line closures to carry out essential work, the lift shafts for the newly built accessible footbridge have now been constructed at Dore and Totley station, whilea bridge has been extended in Bamford to facilitate the new passing loop between Bamford and Hathersage stations as the installation nears completion.
The final stages of work are expected to be completed in the next six months.
These will include track installation, an underbridge extension and the footbridge installation in Dore and Totley.
The delivery of this £145 million upgrade scheme will increase capacity on the Hope Valley line, allowing for a more reliable and more frequent service for commuters from New Mills, Chinley, Edale, Hope and Bamford.
This progress update comes on top of the recently announced electrification of the Hope Valley line, which will cut journey times by an estimated 20 per cent.
Mr Largan said: “I’m really pleased by the significant progress that has been made on the Hope Valley line upgrade.
"I was determined to get this vital rail investment project for the High Peak and it’s great to see our hard work really starting to take shape. “The investment in the Hope Valley line shows the Government’s commitment to the High Peak.
"But there’s much more to do. I’m still campaigning for greater accessibility at stations, particularly my campaign for step-free access at Chinley.”
