A marathon walk from Matlock to Buxton has raised over £11,745 for Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen's Trust.

Staff members from the hospice took part in the challenge on Thursday 22 June, alongside David Hopkins, chairman of Buxton Football Club, and Stephen Tootell, managing director of UK Landcare in Glossop.

The nine team members set off from Matlock Town Football Club at 8am, and reached Buxton’s Tarmac Silverlands ground 10 hours later at 5.50pm where they were welcomed by volunteers from the football club.

They walked through many local towns and villages where the hospice provides vital hospice at home care, including Darley Dale, Rowsley, Beeley, Bakewell, Ashford in the Water, Sheldon, Chelmorton, and Harpur Hill.

Becca Gregory, fundraising manager at the hospice, said: "It was a fantastic day of team spirit as we really supported each other every step of the way. We’re so grateful that David and Stephen joined us on the day, and for their ongoing commitment to raise vital awareness of, and funds for, hospice care in our community.

"We’re also incredibly grateful to local businesses, colleagues, family and friends who have supported our fundraising efforts. We’re so proud to have raised such an incredible amount of money to fund services we see local people benefit from every single day."

David Hopkins added: "When I saw the challenge the team had set themselves and that they were finishing at Buxton Football Club, I was delighted when they said they were happy for me to walk with them.

"Thanks to the support of some of my business contacts, we have been able to help with the fundraising and I am so pleased that we have achieved our ambitious target of £10,000.

"I would urge all local businesses to lend whatever help they can to this amazing charity as they continue to support our community and loved ones."
