Hosts needed to provide home for Ukrainians

Could you open your home to refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine?

That is the question being asked by the Derbyshire resettlement partnership who are interested in hearing from people who may have already expressed an interest to offer accommodation but have yet to be matched with a guest.

The partnership includes Derbyshire County Council, local district and borough councils and a range of other public sector agencies and charitable organisations all working together to provide support.

DCC leader Councillor Barry Lewis said thanks all those who have opened their homes to help those fleeing war in Ukraine.

“Now we’re calling on those who offered their support initially but weren’t matched with a guest, as well as residents who were not in a position to help earlier in the year but whose circumstances have since changed, to get in touch if they are able to offer accommodation.

“We recognise that circumstances change for both hosts and guests and our Homes for Ukraine team is on hand to answer any questions from those interested in supporting the scheme.”

Prospective hosts need to be able to offer accommodation for a minimum of six months, and those who are successfully matched are offered a £350 per month 'thank you' payment.

Hosts provide a basic level of support to welcome their guests to the local area and help with tasks such as registering with a GP, accessing local and public services, and opening a bank account.

Currently, there are known to be around 1,100 Ukrainian refugees who have joined their Derbyshire hosts.
