High Peak volunteer recognised as Coronation Champion

A High Peak woman has been picked as one of just 500 volunteers from across the UK to be recognised as a Coronation Champion.

Ciara Curran volunteers her time with Little Heartbeats PPROM awareness, which raised awareness around pregnancies that see waters breaking prematurely.

She founded the organisation after losing her first born baby Sinead and since then has seen it help save babies lives and help women who sadly lost their babies.

Judges of the award overseen by the Royal Voluntary Service were impressed with her dedication, passion, and commitment that she puts into ensuring women going through PPROM in pregnancy are given the right information, care, and support.

Ciara said: “Being crowned a Coronation Champion at Little Heartbeats PPROM awareness is an absolute honour and shows that all the hard work and dedication in memory to Sinead is making a difference to so many women it’s amazing to have my volunteer work recognised.”

Her efforts see her voluntarily sending out PPROM information care packages, neonatal and loss care packages to mum’s who have either suffered from PPROM in pregnancy or their babies are in neonatal due to PPROM or who have lost babies due to PPROM.

The Coronation Champions Awards invited people across the UK to nominate their local volunteering heroes who are going the extra mile with almost 5,000 people aged 14 to 103 nominated.

All Coronation Champions, including Ciara have been invited to attend one of the official Coronation celebrations, such as the Windsor Castle Coronation Concert or a Coronation Garden Party.

They will also receive a specially designed, official Coronation Champions pin and a certificate signed by Their Majesties.

Nominations were made across eight award categories; supporting older people; supporting young people and children; crisis and welfare; community; sports, culture, and heritage; health and care; sustainability and the environment; and animal welfare.

Catherine Johnstone CBE, Chief Executive of Royal Voluntary Service, said: “We were completely blown away by the response to the Community Champions Awards and the huge volume of amazing nominees put forward.

“Our judges had a tough job selecting just 500 Champions from an array of thousands of inspirational individuals, who all deserve to be recognised and commended.

“Each of our Coronation Champions displayed a commitment and contribution that far exceeds any expectation and we’re overjoyed to honour and thank them during this exciting point in history.”
