Takeaway sign refused by planners

A retrospective application to gain approval for an illuminated sign and painting a Glossop takeaway yellow has been refused by planners.

Following a complaint about the work carried out to the Grade II listed building, High Peak Borough Council investigated.

As a result, the applicant put forward retrospective applications for the work.

The changes have been rejected as planners view the alterations as unsympathetic in design and appearance in a highly sensitive and prominent location at the heart of Glossop Town Centre within the Norfolk Square Conservation Area.

Bungalow plans refused

Plans to demolish a double garage and replace it with a three-bedroom bungalow have been turned down by High Peak Borough Council.

The application was to demolish an existing double garage at 1 Pyegrove Road in Glossop and create a new residential plot by combining the site with land from 83 Sheffield Road.

However, planners have determined that the development would adversely affect the established character and distinctiveness of the local area and harm the visual character of the area and street scene.

New home plan refused

An application to build a new home on land in Chapel-en-le-Frith has been rejected by High Peak Borough Council.

The site of the proposed new property at Eccles Road was on land designated as open countryside that lies outside the built-up boundary for Chapel-en-le-Frith.

The plans that also included a detached garage, landscaping and a new access had prompted 27 responses from the public, of which 20 were objections, 5 were in support and two taking a neutral view.

Planners in refusing the application said building a new dwelling in the countryside would in principle fail to comply with a number of policies, in the Local Plan, the Chapel en le Frith Neighbourhood and the National Planning Policy Framework.

In stated that the development would amount to an undesirable urban intrusion into an area of open countryside and would adversely affect the sporadic and rural character and distinctiveness of the locality.

Plans for extensions rejected

Plans for extensions to a property in Whaley Bridge have been rejected by High Peak planners.

Due to the size, bulk, massing design and materials, they say the proposal would cause harm to the character and appearance of the area.

The application for 3 The Sidings was for extensions to provide a double garage, an extended kitchen/dining/living area at first floor and a large 5th bedroom on the second floor.

The application was a resubmission of a previously refused scheme.

Plans for Hayfield Cricket Club

Plans have been submitted for a single storey extension and internal alterations at Hayfield Cricket Club.

The changes to the Pavilion would allow for separate girls/ladies shower and changing facilities.

The plans for the site located on Market Street in Hayfield are available to view on the council’s website www.highpeak.gov.uk
