Heritage Open Days 2022 events in the High Peak

A chance to find out more and look behind the scenes of some historic buildings in Glossop and the High Peak is being offered as part of the Heritage Open Days. 

Glossop Parish Church of All Saints, the original parish church for Glossop, will be open on Saturday 10th and 17 September from 10am until 4pm. 

Visitors will also be able to take a short tour of the bell tower on Saturday 10th with tours running from 10.30am to 12noon.  

Everyone is welcome, though access to the ringing room and other areas is via a narrow staircase and 55 steps so requires a reasonable level of mobility.

On Saturday 10th, The Friends of Victoria Hall will be holding an Open Art Exhibition from 10am to 4pm that will include work created by local school children. 

The artwork will be judged by Ghislaine Howard, a local professional and well-known artist. The children have been asked to submit works which relate to local heritage. 

During the event there will the chance to take a guided tour of the whole building, listen to talks on the heritage and share memories of its history 

In New Mills there will be opportunities to look around Torr Vale Mill, a Grade II* listed cotton mill, on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th from 12noon to 4pm. 

Buxton Opera House will be opening its doors from 11am to 3pm on 10th September when volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the history of the theatre.  

And at Buxton’s Crescent, a variety of events are taking place on a number of days including public access to see the Assembly Rooms.
