Hayfield Apple Day 2022 'went down a storm'

Hayfield Apple Day 'went down a storm', according to the organisers Sustainable Hayfield.

"It was a lovely day", said Laurie James on behalf of the organising team, “helped by it being – such a lovely day!

“The sun shone, crowds came in their hundreds, there was a really good, friendly vibe and we hope, and believe, visitors and stallholders had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

“We’ve had really good feedback from all concerned. We owe a real debt to all those volunteers who helped on the day.”

Business was brisk indoors and outdoors at the Hayfield Primary School site, with a wide range of refreshments on offer.

The Clothes and Home Accessories Swap Shop, a new addition, was particularly popular with some big-ticket items, some unworn and worth £100 or more, on offer.

The demand for freshly pressed apple juice from Hayfield’s own community orchard was high and the performance of a novelty, humorous Mummers’ Play, with an apple theme, attracted a large and appreciative crowd.

Laurie said: “Apple Day is now a firm fixture in the village calendar, and it draws people from further afield. It’s a really good way of showcasing ways of living a little more lightly.

“We’re really grateful to everyone who supported the event. Now we start thinking about next year!”
