Glossopdale Sixth Form celebrate A-Level results day

Glossopdale School and Sixth Form is pleased to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their academic and vocational A levels this summer.

Students have had a particularly difficult journey to this point, coping with the pandemic, the lack of exams at GCSE and having to catch up on course content and skills to meet the Level 3 course requirements. They have met these challenges with resilience and determination and we are delighted that their hard work has paid off. All students who applied to university have secured their place and this is fantastic in the current educational climate.

Mrs Fionula Flaherty, Assistant Headteacher for the Sixth Form said: ‘Congratulations go to all our students who, without exception, showed the determination they needed to achieve the best grades they could. We have enjoyed working with this amazing cohort over the last two years and have no doubt they will all follow their dreams, coping with whatever the future brings with humour and good nature. They are a year group who supported each other every step of the way and deserve all the successes they have achieved.’

Mrs Debbie Mcgloin, Headteacher said: "These results are a very good indication of the achievements of this group of students and accurately reflect some of their many strengths. This is all the more pleasing when we remind ourselves that for this group of young people these were the first set of formal examinations sat, given the changes which were in place when they were due to sit their GCSEs.

The vast majority have chosen to study for degrees, and the results they have achieved in this summer’s exams opens the door to a wide range of courses at excellent universities across the UK. I was equally delighted to see students gaining results which will enable them to begin degree level apprenticeships and careers in various organisations, as each student moves into a progression route best suited to their individual goals and talents. We are immensely proud of all our Year 13 students and wish them the very best as they leave us for a new set of life experiences.”
