The Commercial Pub in Glossop which sits on the corner of Manor Park road recently received the ‘The Best Pub in the High Peak’ award which was proudly presented by MP Robert Largan and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. 

Initially, Landlord Anthony Parker and his wife Leanne were presented with the ‘Best Pub in the SK13 Area’ award from Robert Largan. Anthony said he felt ‘humbled’ just to win this and that he was ‘proud to fly the flag for Glossop as there are so many good pubs in the area.’ 

Following this award, the pub was voted into the top 5 pubs in the High Peak and eventually won the ‘Best Pub in the High Peak award’ which they found out through a message from Robert Largan. 

Robert had pre-warned the pub that a special visitor would be in attendance when giving the Anthony and his family but when Anthony found out who it was he was in disbelief, saying: ‘I just couldn’t believe it, I still can’t believe the Prime Minister has been to the Commercial in Glossop.’

Once the Prime Minister arrived in Glossop, there was a police presence and security in and around the commercial, but this didn’t stop Mr Sunak from socialising with punters and joining in conversations with local residents about the area. ‘He shook my hand when he arrived at the pub and he's very friendly,’ said Anthony.

Going forward, the pub wants to continue to maintain their inclusive approach to hospitality, Anthony comments: “We love the fact that anyone, male or female can come into the pub and feel safe on their own.”

“We have families come in with dogs and it’s a great atmosphere, everyone is welcome.”

Anthony and his family would like to reiterate that they appreciate everyone and that all the staff are grateful for the local community.
