Glossop Christmas lights switch-on marks start of festive season

Crowds turned out in force on Saturday to mark the official start of the festive season in Glossop.

Norfolk Square welcomed musical performances from Twelve Strings, Isaac Neilson, Rockin Red Rocket, and Glossop Old Band, as well as a Frozen ariel show from Centre Stage and performance from Limelight Theatre.

The entertainment also featured stalls, mulled wine, hot food, Fairground rides, and the Mountain Rescue team with Santa and his sleigh.

Jo Gregory and volunteers from the Hummingbird Project were joined by Deputy Mayor Councillor Graham Oakley and Mrs Val Oakley and of course Father Christmas for the grand lights switch on.

Jo said: “We were so honoured to switch the Christmas Lights on this weekend, on behalf of The Hummingbird Project.

“Myself, Chika Sato Jones and Katie Ann had the honour, and I did a little speech and thank fully didn't mess it up.”

She said she had felt very humbled to have been asked.
