First Producers' Market in Derbyshire hailed a success

Customers from across the county flocked to the first Producers' Market held by Derbyshire County Council at its headquarters in Matlock.

The Members’ Room at County Hall was packed full of eager shoppers who were spoilt for choice with more than 25 stalls showcasing a wide range of fresh produce and artisan crafts.

Visitors to the free market were treated to offerings ranging from fresh meat including burgers, sausages and flavoured pork steaks, Bakewell puddings, gourmet mushrooms, kimchi, Japanese bread and sweet buns, ice-cream, wine, gin, beer, whisky, doughnuts and handcrafted chocolates.

Crafts and crafting materials, homemade artisan goods and original pictures were also for sale.

The market was continuously busy from 10am-2pm with some producers selling out towards the end.

The Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner also had a stall where representatives were available to meet visitors and discuss issues around crime.

Derbyshire County Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis said: “Our Producers’ Market brought together producers, farmers and artisans from across the county who took the opportunity to showcase their goods and meet, chat and sell to new customers. We have already had some really positive feedback about the event, with some of the producers even selling out what they’d brought along.

“There was fantastic support from local people who were keen to see what was on offer and really filled their baskets with top quality produce.

“Derbyshire boasts wonderful and varied local produce and talented, creative artisans and our Producers’ Market really showed a great selection of what is on offer from across the county.”
