Emergency services called to dangerous Simmondley structure

Emergency services raced to Simmondley Lane on Friday evening (28 October) after a concerned resident reported a large crack in the gable end of the partially demolished former Zion Methodist Church.

Firefighters from Glossop Station and police attended the incident, maintaining a safe cordon around the area. Emergency planning and structural engineers were also summoned later.

Part of the road, from the church to the junction with Bowland Road, was closed from around 6pm until approximately 7am the following morning.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said no local residents were affected.

Demolition work at the site has continued this week.

An application to build eight four and five bedroomed properties, both detached and semi-detached, on the plot of land has been submitted to High Peak Borough Council.
