Disney magic on show for Hayfield May Queen

A Disney-themed parade proved to be popular in Hayfield as the crowds watching the annual May Queen parade enjoyed great weather.

A host of village groups and organisations took part in the colourful parade, in costumes inspired by the Disney theme.

The procession, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the Lion King, Beauty and Beast and a host of Disney characters, wound its way through the village, accompanied by music from brass, and pipe bands.

After the parade, attention turned to the May Queen Field where there were a variety of stalls and entertainment and the crowning of the 2023 royalty.

Organisers said: “What a fabulous day. Thank you to everyone who came along to watch, all our volunteers, everyone who took part and of course our Hayfield royalty."

For High Peak Mayor Ollie Cross and his wife Gill, it was the second time they have attended the event. It was the couple’s very first engagement as Mayor and Mayoress last year and could be one of their last.

Mayor Ollie Cross said: “To experience this much-loved community celebration twice has been a privilege.”

He added: “A giant well done to all of the participants - they were absolutely brilliant and put on a spectacular show. Just like last May, we both had a wonderful time, and you couldn't have asked for a better afternoon.”

The May Queen festivities included a Food and Music Festival on Sunday. Among the events still to be held is the Pet Show on Wednesday 17 May and a Children’s Disco on Friday 19 May.
