Community groups celebrated at Chairman's Coronation celebration

Community groups and charities came together to mark the forthcoming Coronation of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort at an event held by Derbyshire County Council's Civic Chairman Councillor David Wilson.

Councillor Wilson invited representatives from not-for-profit organisations across Derbyshire to join him, Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis, Cabinet Members and senior officers to celebrate the King’s Coronation ahead of the historic event this weekend and to take the opportunity to highlight and discuss their valuable work in the community.

Councillor Wilson welcomed his guests to County Hall in Matlock and paid tribute to the work carried out across communities which improves the lives of so many Derbyshire residents.

Councillor Wilson said: “It was an honour to host wonderful charities and organisations on what was a double celebration to mark not only King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Coronation this weekend but also the hard work of so many people in our communities.

“There are a lot of unsung heroes and people who give up their time for free to enhance and improve the lives of others across Derbyshire and it’s so important this work is recognised.”

Councillor Wilson added: “For more than 40 years King Charles has been a leader in identifying charitable need and setting up and driving forward charities to meet it, and as a council we wholeheartedly support these efforts.

“It is fitting that as part of the Coronation activities and events people are being encouraged to take part in a national day of volunteering, The Big Help Out, on Monday 8 May, and the council is also backing this initiative. The long-term aim of this is to get more people involved in volunteering and to show how this can benefit both communities and the people who take part, which is all extremely positive.”
