Christmas 'treecycle' scheme aims to raise funds for High Peak hospice

A High Peak hospice charity is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for local patient care with a scheme for residents to recycle their real Christmas trees.

Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust is hosting the Christmas ‘treecycle’ event in January 2023, alongside Simon Dowell from S 'N' S Trees in New Mills – with sponsorship for the campaign donated by M Markovitz Ltd.

S’N’S Trees has supported the charity with Christmas tree recycling since 2017, raising over £4,200 for hospice care, and this year the scheme is available to more postcodes in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.

Residents in SK17, SK22, SK23 and DE45 postcodes are able to register online anytime between now and Monday 9 January, to have their tree collected during the weekend of Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 January. The charity is asking for donations to support its vital services, in return for trees being collected and recycled.

An army of volunteers will collect trees from homes throughout the weekend and Simon will chip all the trees and donate them for use in community initiatives including allotments and children’s play areas.

The hospice is on the lookout for local people who are able to support the treecycle, by either donating their time, or lending a van to transport trees for recycling. Hot food and refreshments will be available for kind-hearted volunteers.

Becca Gregory, fundraising manager at Blythe House and Helen’s Trust, explained: "We are so very grateful to Simon and the team at S’N’S Trees for supporting the hospice with the treecycle scheme, and to M Markovitz for their very kind sponsorship of the initiative.

"It is such a simple and effective way to recycle your real Christmas tree after the festive period, and help to raise funds for local hospice patient care whilst doing so. We appreciate this winter will be a tough one for many people, but we are excited to be able to recycle your Christmas trees whilst you are safe in the knowledge that the money donated in return will support local families that need hospice care.

"We’d be delighted to hear from anyone – an individual or a local business – who is able to support the treecycle scheme to enable us to raise as much money as possible for the vital services that Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust provides. Please do get in touch if you’re able to support us."

Simon Dowell from S’N’S Trees commented: "I am so proud to raise funds for Blythe House and Helen’s Trust – a charity that has supported beloved family members and friends over the years. It is my way of contributing to the fantastic work of the charity, to help fund the services it provides for many years to come."
