Chapel parish councillor thanked for contribution to local community

Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council office

Chapel-en-le-Frith Parish Council has paid tribute to Michael Barton, following his decision to stand down and resign from the Council.

In a statement, the council said it was sad to announce that the councillor, who was elected in May 2021 and voted to the position of Vice Chair in May 2022, was stepping down.

During his time on the council, he undertook vital work on policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance, a reduced risk for banking activities and access to a decent pension scheme for staff.

Behind the scenes, Michael has also worked with and supported either directly, or advising them on grant applications, the Friends of Chapel Station, Chapel Mobile Physiotherapy Service, Tea and Chat Group, Mustard Seed community cafe, local Churches Together group, as well as the volunteers who look after the graveyards in Chapel.

The Council said his past input has been much appreciated, and his efforts will continue to have a beneficial impact for long into the future.

He was also instrumental in setting up and running the Community Award scheme in 2021 and 2022 to recognise residents and organisations who make a difference to their local community, volunteering and helping set up community support groups.

At the end of 2022, awards were presented to Combs Community Group, Peter Helps, Caroline Bannon, Di Farrow, Rebecca Feroleto, Frances Cohen, Mary Williamson, Gary Dobbin and Paddy Bann.
