Bumblebee safari to take place in Glossop this summer

Inspired by the work of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust Friends of Glossop Station and Friends of Hadfield Station have planned a bumblebee safari aimed at families with Junior School aged children.

Starting from Hadfield station we will look first at the planters on the platform designed to attract bees. Then a gentle walk to nearby Bankswood Park to look for bumblebees en route. No bees will be harmed nor caught - it's simply a safe look and learn.

Along the way there will be a little quiz and an opportunity to learn more about High Peak's rarest bumblebee - the bilberry bumblebee. At certain times of the year this bee can be seen in and around Glossop. The walk will last about an hour with stops and will return to Hadfield Station - connecting trains to Glossop at 2.43 and 3.13pm.

The event takes place on Friday 11th August, beginning at 1.30pm at Hadfield Station.

There is no charge for this event - just turn up at Hadfield station.

If wet, a room at the nearby Hadfield Hall has been booked for some bumblebee activities.

The event has been fully risk/safety assessed and takes place with support from the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership.
