Tameside Rotary and public rally round for Ashton care home's knitting appeal

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Tameside Rotarians Julie Nield and Martin Nield present knitting looms and wool to Kayleigh Foulkes at Kings Park Care Home.

Tameside Rotary has made a special delivery of knitting looms and wool to Kings Park Care Home in Ashton.

The delivery was in response to an appeal launched by the Kings Road care home with the items handed over to Kayleigh Foulkes (well-being co-ordinator) at the home.

Tameside Rotary President Angela Robbins said: “It was our pleasure to deliver knitting looms and wool.”

Rotarians Julie Nield and Martin Nield delivered the looms with Kayleigh saying there had been a good response to their appeal.

The items knitted by the residents go to Tameside Hospital Maternity Unit and there is also a plan to knit for the people that Pauline Town looks after at the Town House.

If any members of the public have any spare wool to drop into the care home, they will be delighted to receive it.

Kayleigh added: “Thank you for the members of the public so far who have already donated.”

Angela said: “We first got involved with King’s Park Care Home when they requested we put an appeal out for members of the public to send Christmas cards to their residents, some of whom don’t have any family and otherwise wouldn’t receive any Christmas cards at all.

“The appeal was so successful that when Kayleigh approached us with the knitting idea and that some of their res- idents had expressed a desire to take up knitting again but didn’t necessarily have the agility in their fingers, would we sponsor some knitting looms so the residents could knit for good causes?

“We couldn’t possibly say no and were delighted to help. Thank you to Rotarian Julie for bringing the project together and our club wishes the knitters many hours of relaxation and enjoyment.”
