Stalyhill's Phil Collins performance raises money for local foodbank

Children from a Stalybridge Primary School have been singing an eighties classic to raise money for a local charity.

The year four classes at Stalyhill Junior School performed the Phil Collins hit 'Another Day in Paradise' to raise money for Barty’s Food Bank.

It’s Year four’s chosen charity for the year and students and parents managed to raise more than £500 which will be put towards buying food and Christmas presents for the local charity.

The food bank is operated by Steven Barton, who last year was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the Tameside community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Year Four teacher Natasha Marshall explained: “We used our music and computing lessons to come together, create the song and put up the JustGiving page.

“I heard the song on the way to work one day and thought that’s it!”

The class had originally only targeted £100, but soon smashed through that with donations pouring in.

“We put it at £100 because we didn’t know what we’d get but it’s exceeded that," explained Natasha.

“That’s all going to go towards the food bank which he’ll hopefully use towards presents for those in need this year.

“The children loved it. Here, they’re not in need and they’re aware of that.

“This made them more aware of Barty’s and the fact that we have more than others. They’re children so they want to help and want to give and they don’t have the worries that adults have. The kids have taken it on brilliantly.”
