Stalybridge primary pupils shine the light on Earth Day

Children at Gorse Hall Primary School in Stalybridge went the extra mile to make a difference within the school and the wider community.

Coming together to celebrate Earth Day, the pupils were given the opportunity to learn all about ‘fast fashion’ and the negative impact that this can have on the environment.

To tackle this issue, each class was given the task to upcycle and recreate an item of clothing – allowing them to design something wearable and purposeful.

The results of this were spectacular. The children repurposed curtains, remnant fabrics and discarded clothes and will be showcasing their fashion range on the catwalk at Holy Trinity Church in June.

Pupils were also involved in the Big Schools Spring Clean, during which they designed posters and took charge of designated areas to clean up.

Children also took to the grounds to take part in some planting.

The pupils at Gorse Hall are determined to make a difference in the community and continue to do so through their acts of kindness.
