Reveal your own lockdown stories

Tameside residents are being encouraged to get involved in a unique lockdown project all about making memories.

The Ripple Project is inviting people to share their experiences of the pandemic using film, social and digital media.

The submissions will then to be put into a digital archive called ‘The Story of Lockdown’ and used in exhibitions and events.

GW Theatre Company, based in Mossley, is delivering the project across the borough, as part of the Tameside Loves Reading campaign.

The campaign is ongoing, promoting reading and improved literacy skills in children and adults.

The project is also supporting four secondary schools to forge creative partnerships with care homes and elderly people, gathering further stories and experiences of the pandemic.

This partnership aims to establish long-term community connections and explore how new technology can be used to assist in isolation and loneliness.

On March 23, ‘The Story of Lockdown’ is set to launch in a multi-sensory exhibition event that will mark one year since the first lockdown.

The exhibition will then go on to tour all Greater Manchester’s boroughs.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning, Cllr Leanne Feeley, said: “The Ripple Project is a great way of capturing these unique times as well as the fantastic sense of community spirit and belonging we share.

“It is also a safe and exciting way of bringing us together to help tackle the isolation and anxiety that so many of us are feeling during these unprecedented times.

“I encourage everyone to take part.”

Taking part is as easy as recording on a mobile phone and speaking to camera for up to three minutes.
