Passengers are being advised to plan before they travel, with work in place on railway services around Greater Manchester.

For 16 days from Saturday 31 July to Sunday 15 August the railway line between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge will be closed to allow for major engineering work.

This work is part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade and will cause major disruption to Northern services between Manchester and Ashton-under-Lyne as well as Stalybridge.

Transpennine have ensured that they will still work to commute the public, with replacement bus services in place. Trains through Stalybridge will be diverted into Manchester Piccadilly.

Buses will run between Stalybridge, Ashton and Guide Bridge, with trains between Leeds and Manchester Piccadilly diverting at Stalybridge.

Waterloo Road will also be closed at the junction of Market Street until 6 August while Network Rail undertake ground investigation works.

During the closure, hundreds of railway workers will renew key sections of tracks and upgrade several railway bridges to improve reliability.
